One fabric, Two shirts for the summer

One day I was in my favorite fabric shop looking into the coupons when I found this fabric of Lillestoff. I immediate fell in love with it...
Op een zekere dag was ik aan het snuisteren door de coupons in mijn favoriete stoffenwinkel toen ik dit stofje van Lillestoff vond. Ik werd er onmiddellijk verliefd op...

In one of my previous posts I already used it to sew a baby cap and headband. But now it was time to use it for my boys!
In één van mijn vorige blogs had ik dit stofje gebruikt om een babymutsje en haarband te maken. Maar nu was het tijd om het voor mijn jongens te gebruiken!


As for my 2-year old the T-shirt may be a cute one, so I used the envelop neck T shirt of the Singer book. I struggled a lot with the envelop neck and it still isn't perfect, but I didn't dare to sew the neck again. 
Voor mijn tweejarige mocht het T-shirt nog wel schattig zijn. Dus gebruikte ik het Tshirt met de envelope hals van het Grote Singer naaiboek. Ik had wel wat last met de envelope hals en het is nog steeds niet perfect, maar ik durfde niet meer lostornen.

But for my 4-year old I didn't want it to be cute. So I sewed the Malik pattern of the magazine La Maison Victor. And the combination with a cool jeans shirt turns this tank top into a cool outfit for the summer!
Maar voor mijn vierjarige mocht het niet schattig zijn. Dus naaide ik het Malik patroon van het magazine La Maison Victor. En in combinatie met een stoer jeans hemd is dit een marcelleke deel van een coole outfit!

So autumn... please stay away for a while!
Dus herfst... blijf nog even weg!

Vroem, Vroem, kids car carrier tutorial

 With 2 little boys, cars are their favorite toys I have discovered a car carrier tutorial on Pinterest. I made some small adaptations to the pattern so it is easier for them to carry it.

Met 2 kleine jongens in huis zijn auto's het favoriete speelgoed. Nu heb ik een werkwijze gevonden op Pinterest voor een auto houder. Ik deed enkele kleine aanpassingen zodat het eenvoudiger is voor hen om het te dragen.

The tutorial gives you the inches for the necessary fabric, but I will quickly give you the supplies in centimeters . There are 2 pieces of fabric of 26,5 cm X 35,5 cm. And another piece of 20 cm x 43 cm. 

De uitleg geeft je de inches voor de benodigde stof, maar ik geef jullie de benodigdheden even in centimeters. Er zijn 2 stukken stof van 26,5 cm x 35,5 cm. En een ander stuk van 20 cm X 43 cm.

It was a bit tricky to sew the straight lines for the pockets, because it is in the middle of the other fabric.The pleats at the bottom of the pockets were also a challenge. So take enough time for that!

Het was wat lastig om de rechte lijnen te naaien voor de zakjes omdat dit dient te gebeuren in het midden van het ander stuk stof. De plooien aan de onderkant van de zakjes zijn ook een uitdaging. Neem je tijd om de plooien mooi te leggen. 

I have used Kamsnaps, where as the tutorial mentions velcro. 2 Kamsnaps for one car tutorial is the best way, because with one it doesn't stay as nice. Make sure that when you sew the velcro or uses Kamsnaps, you leave enough space for the cars. 

Ik heb Kamsnaps gebruikt, maar je kan ook velcro gebruiken zoals in de uitleg. Met 1 Kamsnap valt de houder niet zo mooi, dus 2 is beter. Zorg dat je genoeg ruimte laat voor de auto's wanneer je de velcro er op naait of wanneer je Kamsnaps gebruikt. 

I have added a handle, so it is easier for them to carry it around. It was a fabric leftover. I prefer the short handle, but you can play a bit with that. The width was for each handle 4 centimeter. I looked at the closed carrier what the best place was to put the handle.

Ik heb een handvat toegevoegd zodat de kinderen het eenvoudiger kunnen dragen. Ik naaide het met een stofrestje. Ik verkies het korte handvat, maar je kan zelf wat spelen met de lengte en breedte.  Ik gebruikte 4 cm als breedte (inclusief naadwaarde). Kijk even wat de beste plaats is om het handvat te zetten als deze gesloten is.

And vroemmmm, the car carrier is finished and ready for some action! I hope your boys enjoy it as much as mine.

En vroemmmm, de auto drager is af en klaar voor wat actie! Ik hoop dat jouw zoontjes er net zoveel plezier aan hebben als de mijne.

Popsicle memory!

If you have a Pinterest account, you will certainly know the feeling... Once you are on Pinterest, it's very hard to quit Pinterest. But do bring a visit to my Pinterest Page to see my idea for a fun memory game for the kids.

Als je een Pinterest account hebt, ken je zeker het gevoel... Eens je op Pinterest aan het rondkijken bent, is het heel moeilijk om het af te sluiten. Maar breng zeker een bezoek aan mijn Pinterest pagina zodat je mijn idee voor een leuke memory voor kinderen kan zien.

  What do you need for it? Paint samples ( A lot and double!), glue, scissors and, if you want this, popsicle sticks.

Wat heb je er voor nodig? Verfstalen ( Veel en dubbel!), lijm, schaar en, als je dit wenst, ijslolly stokjes.

Then you draw a semi circle on top of the card. That is the piece that you need to cut to have the Popsicle shape. I also cut a small strip from the paint sample to create the popsicle stick.

Dan teken je een halve cirkel boven aan de kaart. Dit is het stuk dat je moet afknippen om een ijslolly vorm te krijgen. Ik knipte ook een smal stukje van het verfstaaltje om een ijslolly stokje te maken.

Then glue everything together, but make sure that one side has the same colour/figure/... as all the other cards. This is the backside. And there our your popsicle memory cards!

Lijm dan alles aan elkaar, maar zorg er voor dat 1 kant dezelfde kleur/figuur/... heeft als op alle andere kaarten. Dit is de achterkant. En daar zijn jouw kaarten voor de ijslolly memory!

Timon Wallet: testing a pattern

In august I volunteered to test a pattern for the Timon child's wallet of Tinne, who owns the web shop Peggysew

In augustus was ik vrijwilliger om een patroon te testen voor de Timon kinder portemonnee van Tinne, die eigenares is van de webshop Peggysew.   

I had some fabric leftovers, so I created this test version. (And yes, you see that it is a first version) I really love this pattern. She explained it clearly and somebody who starts with sewing can also make it.

Ik had wat stofresten liggen waar ik deze testversie van maakte. (En ja, je ziet dat het een testversie is) Ik hou echt van dit patroontje. Tinne legt alles heel duidelijk uit. Zelfs iemand die pas start met naaien kan dit maken. 

 









Meanwhile my boys use it to do some role play with some money they have created. Unfortunately not possible to use this money in real life.
Ondertussen gebruiken onze jongens het bij hun rollenspel met geld dat ze zelf maakten. Spijtig genoeg kunnen we dit geld niet gebruiken in het echte leven.

But I would also sew this child's wallet as a way to give money to a child.
Maar ik zou de kinder portemonnee toch ook wel maken om geld te geven aan een kind.

Arrrr! A pirates short

Aye matey

Ahoi matroos

With this warm weather, nothing is better then a cool short for a little pirate.

Met dit warm weer is er niets beter dan een stoere short for een kleine piraat.

The pattern came from the magazine La Maison Victor and is called Ray Short. It is such an easy and comfy pattern for little sailors! And if you don't do the top stitching, it will even take less time.
Het patroon komt van het tijdschrift La Maison Victor en het noemt de Ray Short. Het is zo'n eenvoudig en comfortabel patroon voor kleine matrozen. En als je het sierstiksel niet doet, neemt het zelfs nog minder tijd in beslag.

The fabric is jeans that I bought last year. It is a cool boys fabric, which you don't find often in the stores. But until now I didn't know what to sew with it.
De stof is jeans en kocht ik vorig jaar. Het is een cool jongensstof dat je niet dikwijls ziet in winkels. Maar tot nu wist ik niet wat ik er mee moest naaien.

The sides are finished with piping which adds a nice touch to the shorts.
De zijkanten zijn afgewerkt met biais wat een extra toets geeft aan de short. 

 I have already chosen a fabric for the following Ray shorts for my little pirate.
Ik heb al een stofje klaar liggen voor een volgende Ray short voor mijn kleine piraat.

And then our heart stopped for a second

Beste lezer

We had such a nice weekend, but unfortunately the end was less.
We hadden zo een tof weekend, maar helaas was het einde wat minder.

As you know my youngest son has a severe allergy for peanuts and the last party we attended had a lot of peanuts. Everything went okay... until we were saying goodbye to the hosts.
Zoals je al weet heeft mijn zoon een ernstige allergie voor pindanoten en op het laatste feestje waren veel pinda's. Alles ging goed... tot we aan het afscheid nemen waren van de gastheer en gastvrouw.

Our little boy was able to grab a biscuit that was in the bowl with peanuts. He just wanted to take a bite from it when I just pulled it out of his hands. At that stage we just hurried home with the medication in our hands. Ready to take action if necessary...
Ons kleintje greep een koek dat in kom met pindanoten zat. Hij wilde net een hapje nemen wanneer ik het uit zijn handen trok. Op dat moment zijn we gewoon halsoverkop naar huis vertrokken met de medicatie in ons handen. Klaar om in te grijpen als het nodig was...

We immediately saw some rash around his mouth. It became slightly worse in the following minutes, so we did not risk it and gave him one of his medicines. Fortunately nothing swells. That evening we went several times checking him, because an allergic reaction can appear even 3 hours later.
We zagen meteen dat er uitslag verscheen rond zijn mond. Het werd lichtjes erger naarmate de minuten verstreken, dus we hebben niets geriskeerd en gaven hem één van zijn medicijnen. Gelukkig zwelt er niets op. Die nacht zijn we hem verschillende keren gaan controleren omdat een allergische reactie tot 3 uur later kan optreden.

Even now writing this article, I feel the panic again. Hindsight our panic was not necessary as it was "just" a rash. But I will be re leaved when I can talk to his doctor about it as we have our yearly check-up next week. Because, really, my heart just stopped for a second...
Zelfs nu ik dit artikel schrijf, voel ik de paniek van dat moment terug. Achteraf bezien was onze paniek niet nodig omdat het "maar" een uitslag was. Gelukkig, hebben we volgende week onze jaarlijkse check-up met de pediater. Want, echt, mijn hart sloeg een slag over...

It was a valuable lesson... always pay attention! But I  hope to bring you more positive news the next time.
Het was een waardevolle les... wees altijd aandachtig! Maar ik hoop jullie volgende keer meer positief nieuws te brengen.

Dora eats a biscuit

Dag lieve lezer

I recently found these biscuits which my youngest may eat. They do not contain eggs or (traces of) peanut. 
Recent heb ik deze koekjes gevonden die de kleinste thuis mag eten. Ze bevatten geen eieren of (sporen van) pinda.

They were a real success here! Certainly because the oldest son adores Dora and Diego at this moment.
Het was een groot succes! Zeker omdat de oudste helemaal gek is van Dora en Diego op dit moment.

I have taken a picture of the ingredients, because it is not that we may eat them that you or your child with an allergy may eat them. Always be carefull with that!
Ik heb een foto genomen van de ingredienten, want het is niet omdat wij ze mogen eten dat dit voor jouw allergie (of dat van jouw kind) het geval is. Wees daar steeds voorzichtig mee!

Now I am only looking for some biscuits with chocolate in it. If you have ideas, please let me know!
Nu ben ik nog wel op zoek naar koekjes met chocolade. Als je een suggestie hebt, laat het me aub weten!
